Best Buy Review of Service | Screwing Over A Customer

When it comes to retail, customer service, and everything someone would expect a company to provide, you’d first of all expect a mass retailer would consider the huge securities around being able to run and use your debt/credit card properly. If ever they don’t do it in the secure, trusted process we all expect: we would at least hope they’d provide some compassion and assistance in rectifying the situation. This was not the case in my experience at a local Best Buy store in Nampa, ID.

In November of 2007 I made a purchase of Guitar Hero II at a recently opened Best Buy. I paid by debit card and received my receipt as usual. As completely opposite to my expectations for that kind of an establishment, two weeks later I noticed in my online-banking account summary that I had two exact same amounts taken out of my bank for the Guitar Hero purchase at Best Buy. One was posted the same day of the actual purchase (this was charged as a regular debit) and one three days later (I later discovered this was charged as a credit card transaction, AND was dated the same day and time of my original Guitar Hero purchase).

I immediately called the store at the Best Buy in Nampa Idaho where this all took place to express my concern and get more details. They of course promised the manager would call me back very soon. It didn’t happen. Three days later I called back and asked for the Manager to get on the phone right then and there. I explained my situation and she said that she would “investigate it.” She didn’t call me back.

After a few days I, yet again, called back and asked for her by name. She said, “Oh, I will call you in one hour”. This I was naturally very skeptical of, based on past history. She did call me back a few hours later though and said that she had completed her investigation of it and found nothing out of the ordinary. I asked her what she had done specifically in the investigation to which she replied, “We counted the inventory and it came out as it should.” I erupted and said, “What?!!! Do you think that a double transaction for the same item isn’t worthy of doing some accounting investigation?! What is to stop an employee from taking one, when they know the inventory would be just fine?” She said, “Oh our employees would never do that.” Thinking, and knowing that’s absolutely ridiculous, I say “What planet do you live on?! Employee theft is the number one cause of shrink in a store – I work for a large retailer and employees do take money and products.” Well…… I never got anything from her but a denial and the runaround until she could end the phone call. No more investigation followed on BestBuy’s part..

So, I contacted my bank again (previously I had them explain the two transactions which as mentioned before were done at the same exact time – one debit and one credit) and they said that they would put that transaction on hold and would investigate. Two weeks later I got a resolution letter and a copy of just my debit transaction. I had explained to them what they should be looking for and they only provided one small piece, the debit receipt. I called them back and pushed for a supervisor - this call went into an foreign call center.

By now I have lost patience with the whole thing. I am frustrated. I am trying to find someone to just simply help me by either showing actual proof or realizing how easily recognizable this problem is. I explained that they need to get BestBuy to show me legal documentation (signature of a Master Card “credit” transaction would suffice) which should have been posted to the bank. Full well knowing they need to at least prove the two sales, they say “oh, we are sorry about the last investigation, we will do it thoroughly this time.” They again put my transaction in my account on hold.

About two weeks later I received an official letter from the bank that they were satisfied that I had made two purchases at Best Buy – one a debit and one a credit on the same day yes still didn’t provide me with anything other than lip service. Likely, it was yet again coming down to an ‘inventory count’.

I called up the bank and they refused to do any more work. They never provided me with a copy of a credit receipt with a signature which BestBuy requires for credit purchases. I called Best Buy and asked for a copy of my credit and debit transaction. Yet AGAIN, They only sent me a copy of the debit purchase. As far as they are concerned I purchased two guitar heroes but refused to do anything more for me.

So – as you are now gathering, I have truly gotten the royal run around- all co-ordinated by BestBuy. It seems SO obvious that there is a problem needing a legal resolution with had taken place, but I do not have the evidence I asked for, because they (best buy and/or my bank) won’t produce it. What ever they said to the bank made the bank go to their side: but why still leave the customer in the dark with ambiguous nonsense? Neither has produced a copy of my credit card transaction to at least resolve my part of the dispute.

I think that Best Buy has a very poor method of looking for an accounting problem and if any of their employee’s really catch wind, they could easily (if they don’t already) have some serious issues with employee theft via double charging a random shoppers card. Granted the store was newer so we can assume some stumbling blocks, but this whole thing with BestBuy was ridiculous. “Our inventory count matched our records.” Well of course it does and someone at that store is secretly laughing about how easy it was to get a Guitar Hero probably knowing full well you wouldn’t give a hoot.

I guess one would resort to small claims court, but I don’t have any evidence to prove my case at this point. I would need a lawyer and some subpoena’s to get to the bottom of it. Alas, it is not worth that type of effort and I am sure that this retailer and many others know this. What effort is it worth? Telling my story online. BestBuy sucks. If I had to review BestBuys overall service, it’s probably for family friendly for you to enter the expletives/4 letter words of your choice.

Were You Fired Because of Halo 3?

Monday night, Sept 24th, 11:30 PM. For many, this is the time where you are either in bed, or preparing to go to bed soon. All so you can wake up, hit your 8-5 job the next day with plenty of rest. But since you are in line at a local game store, waiting for the release of Halo 3. You are thinking; “I won’t have it in my hands for another hour with this long line, and the only reason I am staying up late to get one of the first copies is so I can play it all night.”

So you stayed up all Tuesday morning playing the game. Campaign mode, xBox live, system link with all your friends that have a 360 and a new copy of the game too. 6:00 AM rolls around. You might be able to get an hour of sleep in before heading to work, maybe just little more since your dedication to the game means sacrifices; no morning shower, no breakfast unless it’s packed with caffeine, wear the same clothes you have been for the last 24 hours. You don’t care if you look like crap, aren’t productive for a day. The only light at the end of the tunnel is a power nap on your lunch break, and the feeling that you can just go home and crash for a few hours before you meet up with your friends online yet again night.

Not.

That was a not joke. I told a story about the scenario you too were planning on likely, but that’s not how it ended up right? You played hookie, you snuffed work, called in sick, or in the thick of trying to memorize the new maps, and the new button set up for reloading your weapons and switching between your arsenal of mine variations you totally forgot you had a job.

Halo 3: Master Chief

Halo 3 wasn’t released in secret. It’s been all over the news for weeks. Commercial spots on TV are prolific, and it’s pretty hard to buy a slurpee (which you know your boss buys daily) with out seeing Halo 3 and the release date all over it. I really enjoy this more than v.1 and v.2, ( though my idea for Halo 3 Features wasn’t implemented), I still will probably play it quite a bit for the next little while, (making sure it doesn’t affect my performance at work like you didn’t).

Update.exe: Halo 3 broke the single day entertainment releases of all time. The previous was held by Spider Man 3, with 151 million dollars. Halo 3 took in $170,000,000.

Question: Have you been reprimanded, written up, or even fired basically because of your dedication for Halo 3? Was it traumatic? Lets hear your story in a comment. Share your gamer pain.

My Apple Computer and the Mac Programs I Can’t Live Without

If you are merely interested in the programs themselves, I would just scroll past this next stuff.

I finally approached the one year mark of owning my first Apple computer. I have a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook with 2 GB of RAM. I am not quite sure I really knew how much I would eventually appreciate this little laptop. I had a pretty decent list of reasons why I wanted to get an Apple computer, and just figured I would probably still have a Windows machine as well (or use Boot Camp/Parallels to boot windows on it if I had to). From my family’s basic use of the computer’s we had (they actually did get into computers pretty early in the 90’s), my schools, jobs, and the friends who all had PC’s, there was a pretty high level of calls to tech support companies, and lots of replacements. Actually, I think there still may be a dedicated area in my parents’ house for the pile of their old PC’s. I really just kind of hated computers growing up, and the stress’s caused to everyone around me trying to get them to work right didn’t help.

Sure, there may be some people, that could make assumptions and generalizations on my exposure to PC’s to date; “Your family probably is just computer illiterate, or were bad consumers”, “your school sucked obviously and had old hardware” etc. etc. Nope. I was the typical and average person (still am you say?), I fitted in the majority demographic for PC/Windows exposure. Thats the point. Any time a Window’s lover tries to slam Apple, or prove they are “superior” (though we are naively comparing ‘apple’s to rotten oranges’ really) they just fail to admit that in an average situation, where a Window’s based machine was being used by an average person, the process was too much of a struggle. Only higher than average computer |\|3®Ð$ (nerds) were seemingly without worry or stress.

Everyone in my family were all average computer users, my friends and jobs were average in technological advancement, and I attended an average high school. I was in the 4 year engineering program my high school had which was given the most advanced computers on campus. When a computer craps out, something goes wrong, Windows error messages pop up in the thousands; I know as well as the next guy, that many of the problems were hardware more than they were software (which even now gets chalked up to %100 user error by the previously mentioned Windows lovers). My uncle was in charge of moving forward Salt Lake Cities technology in the mid 90’s, and research was conclusively showing that it takes 1/5 as many full time employee’s to support Apple’s over PC’s. managing a full school district’s comprehensive computer system, and the computers cost less and lasted longer.

If it’s user error, then the point is still-> Windows software and machines weren’t made for the average user, they were made to take advantage of them. If it’s hardware problems, PC’s were made cheap and likely designed to wear out and be out dated in a few months contributing the disposable society. The average computer consumer doesn’t seem to buy into the ‘you get what you pay for’ concept. If you want a long lasting computer with $2000 of hardware, what do you think it’s gonna cost? Comparing the mere hardware on my computer and it’s cost when I bought it, it was the same price to get an equal PC. Actually, when I bought this computer, it was named the most advanced computer that could run Windows XP under $1800. Yeah- if you can’t figure where this is all going yet, you are better off on your disposable PC.

I love my Mac- it’s opened a ton of doors that PC’s couldn’t approach out of the box, and not because I can’t do the same things on a PC, cause most of the time a person can, but I can do them with quite a large selection of free software that came on my computer. My Apple computer doesn’t get viruses, no built in out-of-the-box spamming software (shame on you dell, compaq and all the others), isn’t susceptible to bad/spam software being installed with out my knowledge, and everything is just plain full of good looking software, and equally attractive form factors. Click the ensuing link in the sentence to find a better Mac VS PC argument.

So.. here it is. The list of my favorite software for Mac OS X Tiger.

Mac OS X Applications: Get your Apple the hook-up.

  • Quicksilver.Freeware (you can download it for free from the makers). The smoothest and easiest to use software, document, picture, and all around data launching program. Adaptive to the things you use most. Pick a short cut to open it, start typing the name of the file or program you want to open and there it is as well as a full list of related and similarly named files. It is really easy to use, and your work flow and organization can benefit quite a bit.
  • Adobe Creative Suite 3. 30 Day Trial. Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and more. Finally native on Intel Macs and running better than ever. You should already be aware of what they do. My photography and designs have never looked better, and my interest in how to use them is always growing.
  • Bean. Word processor. Freeware. Don’t want to buy use Microsoft Office X on your mac? Bean is a pretty decent free word processor.
  • Neo Office. Freeware. Another good set of programs (based on open office) which give a full office suite, with a Word Processor, Power Point equivalent program, Excel etc. A little slower than Microsofts suite, but still easy to use, and best of all, free.
  • VLC. Freeware. Want to play any video format, regardless of what your perceive is a Windows or PC format? This is the solution. I use it more than any other video playing program because it already has all codec’s and software needs to play whatever I can get my hands on.
  • Smultron. Freeware. As pointed out on Gthing, Smultron is a plain text editor with a multi-tray loader for managing multiple documents. It has syntax highlighting, (color coding and extensive list of code), split window view, auto-completion of html tags, and remote server file editing. It serves as a decent replacement for those who don’t want to buy Dreamweaver.
  • Garage Band. Freeware that comes on your Apple computer. One of the more popular software programs that come on your computer, and part of the iLife software set, Garage Band gives you your own mini recording studio. Multi-track management, auto-tempo on audio files, mixing, a huge list of effects for all audio, virtual instruments, podcast factory and more.
  • Parallels. Demo to Purchase software. Run Windows XP, 2000, or Vista at the same time as Mac OS X. Parallels now has better 3D imaging support (for windows gamers), can partition your hard drive and is a Window’s installer as well. You can easily use BootCamp to just boot straight into Windows on your Mac machine if you want it to run as best as possible. Parallels is some pretty friggin sweet stuff when you get it going though.
  • IMovieHD. Also free on your mac, part of the iLife set. Windows movie maker looks like the 80’s butt rocker in modern times who just can’t let go of the era, the mullet, gold chains, and ac/dc shirt. Edit video (even High Definition video) faster and with more effects and styles than ever. With 99% of the worlds video’s being edited on Apple computers, it won’t take long to learn why- and maybe you can eventually bump up to Final Cut. (professional movie editing software available at all Apple product retailers.)
  • You Control Tunes. Freeware. A simple and easy to use way of controlling iTunes right from your menu bar. I don’t really like iTunes a ton, but its good enough. The interface and usability is a little more complicated than I would like, and this program makes up for it and acts as a middle man.
  • CandyBar.Demo to purchase. Simple and cheap. Download some cool icons from the internet, replace any icon on your computer with them.
  • For an Apple owner, I am still just an average user I suppose. There is so much freeware out there for Mac’s, that can do just about anything and everything, there are probably some really good lists much better than mine for you to look through. There are newer machines out, but mine isn’t outdated or disposable really. It’s faster than it was before and I know how to use it more.

    Sherwin Williams

I have a few friends that work for Sherwin Williams. Paint the world. The product, is actually really good stuff. I like the company too. They seem very deserving of my business if a need calls for it. Looking to the retail paint world, I may not be in the position to ever buy paint more than once every few years, but I am impressed with the stores in Utah that I have had exposure too.

Unfortunately, outside of Sherwin corporate control they occasionally might have an employee who could possible make one mistake. Not that this should really ever reflect on the company as a whole, but sometime you just get a sour-duck who might not be up to par for a few minutes when making a judgment call. With my recent State Farm Insurance Review I know, and admit that it is somewhat of a rare case.

When State Farm got wind of my review, and found that is was on the negative side, they contacted me. Apologized for the bad service, asked for feed back, discussed the whole ordeal one more time. I may feel that they have failed in fixing the issue and have shown a lack of interest in actually doing anything to get me back to where I was before my wreck, but they did show some integrity and strength in calling me.

Companies can find out who is talking about them online through a variety of avenues. Google alerts is a popular way to know who is discussing a topic you want to follow. No doubt, every major corporation either has an internal department to pay attention to their online image (like State Farm does) or they can hire risk management companies to help out with the public relations side of things.

Apparently, when someone who’s I.P. registered at a Sherwin Williams corporate office got a notification of a friends post about car dealerships in Utah who merely briefly mentions Sherwin Williams as a point of reference where he was traveling, he came to the site to check it out. Publicly his display name is ‘ED’ and after obviously seeing that my friend’s post was harmless and had nothing to do with Sherwin, he decided to stay (slightly anonymously) criticize the blog because it somehow really cut him deep that there is someone out there who thinks differently than he does. Instead of doing damage control, he kind of did the opposite since his action and opinion weren’t actually anonymous. My apologies to my friends that work at Sherwin, but whoever is actually the user ‘ED’, is retarded and should go trolling the web on his own time under a different e-mail address and IP. His generic banter was pointless.

Now personally, I guess I really don’t care that much. So I don’t need to hear one of my friends disagreeing with me or trying to make some random point about how I am wrong or shouldn’t have written this. (hehe.. though just saying that I expect my comments may fill up). I think from an SEO perspective. Actually, most of my posts as of yet have really been to only serve an SEO purpose. Admittedly, I am a troll, hypocrite, and just a dumb search engine optimizer.

I will try to keep this short and to the point.

    State Farm Auto Insurance Review

    State Farm Review

Like a good neighbor, State Farm will screw you over .

I normally try not to whine too much on my blog, but some events surrounding a car accident I was in has lead me to detest State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. My experience was bad enough that I not only left them likely forever, but I also pro actively prevent people from using their services and will use my blog to share my story with others. After writing and re-writing this a few times, I realized it’s hard to comprehensively explain the problems that happened in a short summary, so my apologies for the long post.

    The Wreck

I thought about going into major details here, but basically the wreck wasn’t small. My car flipped around and almost slammed into a store front, pretty bad neck and back damage. An ambulance came, Provo police gave the other guy a few tickets since it was clearly his fault and he broke laws designed to prevent accidents. I was hauled off to the ER for X-rays of my neck and back since both hurt quite bad. The police got the other man’s insurance info and grabbed some of my personal effects out of the car. My family has been with State Farm for as long as I can remember, and we have never had any major wrecks, so no major claims to really test their service until this.

The car was hauled to a holding lot in Provo, and at State Farm’s recommendation we have it later moved to a lot in Springville, UT nearby where I live, to be close during the repair, or assessment of total loss process. I already knew for a fact that the car was totaled. It was likely destroyed enough to be totaled and I am sure every insurance company probably would have agreed. Luckily I had Comprehensive coverage from State Farm. Luckily right?

    Insurance Mess

They (State Farm Insurance) A.K.A. State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company arrange for a rental car, and since I know for a fact my car is totaled, they said the rental will be covered until a few days after they make an offer/settlement on my totaled car. At this point, with the 5 minute conversation to make the claim, and arrange the rental I felt comfortable with State Farm handling it. I asked them what processes I should follow, who I should contact for what, etc.

I missed work, started physical therapy on my back and neck, State Farm agreed to cover everything and said they would “take care of me” and all the bills from the wreck, with which they said they would pay upfront and then later get the money for everything from Nationwide Mutual, the company who covered the driver who was at fault. I thought this was a good idea because I didn’t want to have to deal with both companies, and have some bills go through one and some through another.

The first major problem anyone might encounter with State Farm and the way their claim service is set up, is that you will rarely talk to the same person twice unless you have a super nice dedicated agent that wants to be the middle man between everyone. They have a “team” of people (call center style), and as they started collecting statements and gathering info about my car, the wreck, and my bills, made an offer for my car, etc, no one communicated very well with anyone else and everything is based off of “notes on your account” which never said anything to help me. I had to deal with Nationwide Insurance for the medical bills once State Farm actually came forward and said they wouldn’t pay for them anymore. At Nationwide, there was one person over my entire claim who remembered me very well every time I called in.

State Farm stopped paying the medical bills after about 3 weeks, and since I still needed therapy I had to pay it out of pocket (send it to my crappy personal insurance I was paying for) and then try to get Nationwide to pay back the bills. After a few weeks of having a rental car, State Farm came to me and said that they wouldn’t pay for the past week, and nothing further. This was stressful because I still had a loan out on my Galant, they hadn’t made an offer yet for my totaled car, and I was broke from not being able to work. The rental was 30$ a day, so close to $300 in the last few days of driving, and how ever much longer I might need it until I find a replacement car. I needed a rental until I could finally get an offer, accept it, and buy a new car. I was forced into a situation where State Farm eventually changed their opinion after a few heated conversations and said they would cover the rental, but might bill me later. They reversed their stand on the rental car issue with every person that I talked to. I got uneasy and was kind of forced into buying a super cheap Daewoo to hold me over.

I left my stereo system and after market rims and other stuff on the car because there was a chance State Farm might give a fair value for them ( this I did at the recommendation of one of the State Farm employees I talked to). If they wouldn’t pay fair market value, then I would pull everything off/out of the car and put the stock ones back on. I still owned the Galant, and had not received payment for it, nor gave permission for anything to be touched. State Farm called me and said they wouldn’t consider those parts in the value of the car so I could go get them, I verified the car was still at the local lot/repair shop it was supposes to be at and literally just 5 minutes later I go over to the lot to get them off and the repair shop said the car was moved by State Farm Insurance a week or 2 previous. State Farm moved the car I still owned to a wrecking/auction yard way up in Northern UT, despite me never giving permission to do so.

My car was stolen by my own insurance company with (Read the article)

Chadders Hamburger Joint: It was fun

Chadders Rip Off In-N-Out LawsuitIn-N-Out is officially suing a Utah fast food restaurant. Some people teased me when I said I was sure In-N-Out knew about the rip-off chain located in American Fork, UT. KSL outlines that apparently some confused In-N-Out loyalists e-mailed In-N-Out Corporate, asking if they had opened up new store under a different name. To settle some of the rumors I have heard, In-N-Out didn’t actually secretly own Chadders, and Steve Martin isn’t Mormon.

Sure enough, In-N-Out apparently knew about it and has been building a case which has finally been served to the owners of Chadders. As too close of a rip off, Chadders has a “Trademark Infringement” lawsuit to fight now. I am not going to lie; they really did look a lot like In-N-Out, and the food was pretty close. When I asked for an Animal Style Hamburger, the employee told me to ask for a Stubby Style or something, but when my friend asked for it, the other teeny-bopper-bubble-gummer employee merely said, ’sure’.

Though the owner assured many people that he had done his homework with his lawyers before opening to the public, apparently even they might have missed something, or at least weren’t counting on In-N-Out corporate to be so aggressive. Personally I wish they could keep it open, and I hope the lawsuit doesn’t shut them down. It’s nice having a In-N-Out trademark-brand-ripping hamburger joint so close.

This lawsuit could take anywhere from 2 months to 2 years. Legally Chadder’s can operate that entire time until the ruling is given, with the possible ‘cease and desist’ which would have an accompanying date. So during that time, maybe we can eat there just a little more often until our desires overpower us enough to drive to St. George.

In-N-Out has not made anything official, but they are possibly going to make the smart move to build a commissary in Las Vegas. They won’t build an In-N-Out restaurant 500 miles away from a commissary apparently, so putting one in Vegas opens up quite a few more possible In-N-Out locations. That would at least open up Utah and Arizona to the restaurant chain (non-franchised chain that is). Which seems to be an obvious move if they want to push towards the east. I have no doubt that they would do extremely well in Utah, not just in St. George, but also in Provo, Draper, and West Jordan.

Here is the official address for Chaders Restaurant.

    Chadders Update: Post Lawsuit:

On 6-27-07, I went to lunch with a few of my co-workers to Chadders. They seem to want to work with In-N-Out and have made some changes around the restaurant. No more red strip on the tables, no more red boards around the windows (blue), all employee aprons are blue, and they have replaced the menu design both inside the store and in the drive through. It really does a good job of helping the store not appear as much as an In-N-Out. As you can see by some of the comments that have been made since the original post, there is a strong following of people wanting Chadders to remain open, and it’s pretty clear a lot of people are pretty confused about what the lawsuit is really about. Hopefully most rumors will be settled soon enough.

    Newegg Tech Support

I have worked in various support services departments for different companies. I did tech support/customer service for Nu Skin/Pharmanex which didn’t require a ton of knowledge, but they did require us to know everything in our scope of support. If someone came to us with something we didn’t know, we found it out. I felt like a slave, but at least our customers were satisfied with out service. I later worked for Apple iPod Tech support. Here the training was surprisingly rigorous. Apple really did want us to know as much as we could about the products we were providing support for, despite the fact that if someone couldn’t figure out how to use an iPod, they probably have a fairly low intellect. 85% of the time the hold button was on or it was out of power.

Recently I was informed of a tech support department who not only didn’t know how to help their customers for some of their products, they decided that rather than finding the information out and teaching the rest of the tech support team it would be easier to just actually send the customers to another companies tech support. I know . . I know . . it’s absolutely ridiculous.

Newegg is a huge company who has a fairly dominant position in online retail. On a number of occasions they have referred customers to Sewell Directs tech support department for products and questions concerning Newegg’s products. It has been known for a long time that Sewell Direct has had an amazing Tech Support and customer service department, but honestly think about how sad it is that Newegg is a company willing to lose customers and taint their online image by trying to earn money but not support and help their customers.

    iPod Accessories

I am a big fan of gadget guides such Gizmodo, Engadget and others. I have also worked for an online retail company since the summer of 2006 where I have been lucky to learn about computer accessories and other tech products of almost every kind. I was even lucky enough for them to send me down to CES (consumer electronics show), and see just about all the new amazing gadgets and electronics from both big and small manufacturers.

As I read and study about new products for my job, when I read articles on gadget news sites, go to retail stores and see the new nerd junk, browsed everything at CES, or even just watching commercials on TV (I miss having a DVR really bad), I have really become quite sick and tired of seeing one category of products every where I turn.

There is a huge profusion and super-abundance of iPod Accessories coming out every corner of retail imaginable.

Generic and name brand companies constantly redesign, rename, and re-package products and accessories to go with every model of iPod ever, and since Apple changes the size and features of the iPod every other month, this brings millions and millions of the exact same kind of products to the table. A lot of them are even made in the same factory in China. The proliferation of iPod accessories is saturating any desire I have to do anything with my iPod but listen to music in my car, which I bought an accessory even for that. I bought a CD player with an iPod in-put. Seriously though, I think we have a problem. Ipod accessories are probably going to out number humans. There will be trash dumps just for iPod accessories, people will buy so many they will have to pay someone else to take them.

Another thing I am sick of is seeing, is the generic routine catchy names that Apple started which everyone feels is entirely necessary to follow if it is going to have any validation. Doesn’t matter what the heck it is, throw an “i” in front of it and it automatically becomes an iPod accessory. iCase, iTrip, iScreen, iCup, iKaraoke, iGolf, iDog, iBag, iCamera, iDock, iStupid, iHateallthesenames, iNeedtothrowup, I love Apple. I hate iPod accessories.

    Divine Strake

On the table of things the Federal Government wants to do, we have an operation called Divine Strake. The purpose of this event, is to explode 700 tons of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil (ANFO) at our neighbor’s nearby Nevada Test Site. Yes, it’s a proper noun. You may or may not recognize the ingredients for the bomb. It was Timothy McVeigh’s choice of materials for a building in “OOOOOklahoma, where wind comes sweepin’ across the plain”. The current claim, is that the government wants to find out exactly how much it would take to destroy an underground tunnel/facility space for the Hard and Deeply Buried Target Defeat (HDBTD) program. This would be the largest non-nuclear conventional explosive test since 1993. The majority of U.S. tests in the early 90’s have been on 18 ton explosives of this same material. Divine Strake, nearly 40 times that amount is being detonated to ’simulate’ a low level nuclear test. We don’t want to actually blow a Nuke up and piss of the UN, Russia and even more American’s.

The Divine Strake test is being done on location at the exact spot where a few hundred nuclear tests were conducted during our Nuclear growth stage. It is considered one of the most highly radioactive area’s in the world. Problem: Blowing up a non-nuclear 700 ton bomb that is designed to pummel bunkers on this site, does what to the radio-active compound the entire site is made up of? When Salt Lake ABC News questioned the US Government division in charge of this, they confirmed that the mushroom cloud would in fact bring radio-active material across the US, and that this cloud would reach most of UT in its initial expansion over the first few days.

Governor Huntsman is soon heading to Washington to oppose Divine Strake in person. Though we just recently got cable TV at our house, the news was filled with Anti-Divine Strake segments this evening when I sat down to watch. After being introduced to Divine Strake for the first time tonight from a few different news agencies, I actually thought it was a massive nuclear bomb that was going to kill everyone in UT from the effects, and that the US Government has been hiding many facts and truths about what the real purpose is, and how it would affect us. Conspiracy . . blah blah . . Bush sucks… blah blah; the usual. It was really quite amazing to watch as these news anchors incited ‘group think’ rather than deliver ‘fair and balanced’ information on the subject. My favorite part of the evening was watching the channel 4 ABC local news anchor get emotional in trying to convince Utah residents to do what ever they can to stop Divine Drake with a very routine, generic practiced speech against the bomb by talking about our responsibility, “I’ll stake my professional career in taking a stand” type of usual cud. It was very moving except I saw this type of speech in Independence Day and Dave. Rather than make me sympathize with the issue, the news anchors put me in a situation that made me feel like I was being told to vote for Hillary Clinton because she is a good hearted, unbiased American who will represent what everyone in the country wants, when the truth is really quite the opposite.

I turned to my good friend Google, and asked him if I could find some of the truths about the upcoming planned explosion.

Interesting Divine Drake Fact: Lee Benson wrote an article for one of the public hearings just over a week ago on the subject of what dangers we face. He stated “It bothers me to hear of people worried about trivial or nonexistent amounts of radiation, and what we’re talking about in this case is a level of radiation so small it should realistically be called zero.”

He continues: “According to quotes from the (government’s) official draft assessment, the most radiation a person could receive standing next to the test site boundary during the explosion is estimated to be 0.006 to 0.007 millirem, while off-site populated areas would have an exposure two to five times lower still. That is 40 to 100 times lower than the 0.1 millirem level established by the EPA as allowable exposure (at the Nevada Test Site) under any conditions.”

This is quoted from the perspective of someone standing at Site 16 in the Nevada Test Site when Divine Strake is blown. Apparently, a dental X-ray exposure is about 100 millirems. Oh, and the US doesn’t make anything large enough to deliver 700 tons of liquid explosives. The closest thing is a space shuttle external tank.

I suppose another interesting fact would be that there have been around 100,000 various cases of cancer in people who spent routine time near and around the Nevada Test Site, caused by the Governments 900 nuclear tests at that location. Idea numero uno: Don’t got to ground zero. Regardless of the face that this bomb is non-nuclear, I don’t need front seats anyway. LV- good. NTS- bad.

Point: I wish the news would have spent more time telling me what Paris Hilton is doing or what American Idol gossip there is. Not really, but it’s all about the same usefulness to me considering how much the news channels didn’t know or didn’t want to tell us. It felt like the News here in UT was really just wanting something to be mad about, and were happy that such a big story was taking place here. Well… in Nevada really, but don’t tell them, they are enjoying it. There was so much talk about what people in the area feel like (based on what information they had or what the news channels had told them), and pretty much nothing on the reality of the situation.
